School of Communication and Arts
About
The School of Communication and Arts (CCE), established in 1976, traces its origins to the former Faculdade Catarinense de Filosofia [Santa Catarina Faculty of Philosophy], founded in 1951. Today, the CCE encompasses seven academic departments, seven graduate programs, and over 20 undergraduate programs, offered both on-campus and through distance learning.
With a broad scope of disciplines, the school specializes in areas such as Design, Animation, Language and Literature, Film Studies, and Performing Arts. Its teaching, research and outreach activities are housed across three buildings. These include hundreds of classrooms, videoconferencing rooms, specialized laboratories, a dance and theater performance space, and a 120-seat auditorium.
Notably, the CCE is home to the first undergraduate program in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) in the country, a pioneer initiative that continues to serve as a national and international reference in the field.
The school’s academic community consists of approximately 4,000 members, including around 200 deaf individuals.
